Professional Mountain Bike Coaching Built Around the Rider

SkillsLoop provides professional mountain bike coaching for riders travelling from across the UK, with sessions based at Cannock Chase and selected riding locations.

Our aim is simple: help riders understand their technique, build confidence and make genuine progress on the bike.

Adam Coxon SkillsLoop mountain bike coach

Adam Coxon

Adam is the owner and Head Coach of SkillsLoop and is passionate about helping riders become more confident, capable and comfortable on their mountain bikes.

With a riding background that includes trials and downhill, Adam brings a broad understanding of bike control, movement and technical riding into his coaching. He has been coaching for more than 7 years and continues to develop new ways of helping riders understand techniques that may previously have felt intimidating or out of reach.

Adam's coaching style is built around breaking skills down, explaining why they work and giving riders the time to practise until the movement begins to make sense.

Whether that means improving body position, finding more grip in corners, learning jumps and drops or tackling steeper technical terrain, the focus remains the same: clear coaching and meaningful progression.

Adam's approach:

Build the foundations, understand the movement and progress when the rider is ready.

Why Mountain Bike Coaching?

Many riders spend years trying to improve through trial and error.

Sometimes a small change to body position, timing, braking or vision can unlock something that has felt difficult for months or even years.

Understand the Technique

Good coaching should explain why something works, not simply tell you to copy a movement.

Build Confidence

Progression becomes much easier when riders understand what they are doing and feel more in control.

Break Old Habits

Many experienced riders develop habits that work until the terrain becomes faster, steeper or more technical.

Enjoy Riding More

Better technique can make familiar trails feel completely different.

Matthew Bowker SkillsLoop mountain bike coach

Matthew Bowker

Matthew has been riding bikes for as long as he can remember and brings a huge amount of enthusiasm and coaching experience to SkillsLoop.

Some areas of riding did not always come naturally to Matthew himself. Through coaching and practice he worked through those challenges, giving him a valuable perspective when helping riders who are struggling with a particular technique.

Matthew has more than 15 years of coaching experience, beginning with Go-Ride sessions for young riders after completing his British Cycling Level 2 qualification.

That experience, alongside his practical bike knowledge, allows him to support riders with both their technique and their understanding of the bike underneath them.

Built Around Real Riding

SkillsLoop coaching is designed to work where mountain biking actually happens — on real trails, real features and constantly changing terrain.

What Makes SkillsLoop Different?

SkillsLoop isn't about shouting instructions from the side of the trail.

We want riders to leave understanding what changed, why it made a difference and how to continue working on it after their coaching session.

Small Groups

Keeping coaching groups small gives riders more useful individual feedback.

Progressive Coaching

Techniques are built step by step rather than rushing riders onto bigger or harder features.

Real Trail Application

Skills are not just practised in isolation. We help riders apply them to the terrain they actually ride.

All Abilities Welcome

Coaching is available from complete beginner level through to experienced and advanced riders looking for performance gains.
