Private Cornering Course

Private Cornering Course

Cornering is one of the quickest ways to completely change how your riding feels.

Better body position, more grip, smoother direction changes and less unnecessary braking can transform the way you carry speed and flow through a trail.

Whether corners currently make you nervous or you are already a confident rider looking for those extra seconds, this private course is built around your riding and your goals.

More grip. More flow. More confidence.

Many riders lose speed in corners long before they need to.

Sometimes it is braking too late. Sometimes it is body position, vision, bike angle or simply not knowing where your weight should be.

We break the corner down into manageable parts and show you how they work together.

Find more grip

Learn how body position, foot pressure and bike angle can help the tyres work more effectively.

Carry more speed

Improve your braking points and learn how to enter and exit corners without killing your flow.

Move the bike

Learn to separate your body from the bike rather than leaning everything together as one stiff unit.

Build confidence

Understand why a corner works so you can repeat the technique across different trails and conditions.

What will we work on?

Body Position

Good cornering starts before the bike is even leaned over.

We first make sure you are standing in a stable, balanced position that allows the bike to move underneath you.

  • Stable first position
  • Weight through the feet
  • Relaxed upper body
  • Elbows out
  • Freedom to move around the bike

Bike & Body Separation

Bike and body separation, or BBS, is one of the biggest cornering breakthroughs for many riders.

Instead of leaning your whole body with the bike, we teach you how to move the bike beneath you while keeping your body balanced and controlled.

  • Understanding your centre point
  • Moving the bike independently
  • Creating bike angle
  • Maintaining balance
  • Finding more available grip

Footwork

Knowing which foot to move, when to move it and how much pressure to apply can dramatically change how secure you feel in a corner.

  • Outside foot pressure
  • Pedal position
  • Timing the movement
  • Creating stability
  • Adapting foot position to different corners

Vision

Your bike has a habit of following where you look.

We help you stop staring at the obstacle, rut or edge of the trail and start looking towards where you actually want to go.

  • Looking through the corner
  • Scanning the exit
  • Keeping your head up
  • Reducing target fixation
  • Connecting corners more smoothly

Braking

Great cornering is not about never using the brakes. It is about using them at the right time.

  • Braking before the turn
  • Brake modulation
  • Reducing unnecessary braking
  • Maintaining traction
  • Carrying controlled speed

Line Choice

The fastest or easiest line is not always the most obvious one.

  • Entry position
  • Apex awareness
  • Exit line
  • Reading trail shape
  • Planning ahead for the next feature

Flat corners first

Flat corners expose technique because there is no berm there to support you.

That makes them one of the best places to learn how body position, bike separation, foot pressure and vision create grip.

Once these movements begin to feel natural, they transfer brilliantly into berms and more technical trail corners.

One of our favourite cornering cues:

Elbow to the sky, bum to the berm.

Then we take it to the trail

Practising movements in a controlled area is useful, but the real goal is being able to use them when the trail changes underneath you.

Once the foundations are in place, we apply them to real corners and start looking at how braking, line choice and terrain affect your riding.

Choose the right course option

Option 1

Ideal if you are newer to cornering technique, building confidence or want to properly understand the foundations.

  • Progressive coaching
  • Flat corner foundations
  • Berms
  • Body position
  • BBS
  • Vision and braking
  • Progression at your pace

Option 2

Designed for intermediate riders who already have reasonable cornering confidence and want to apply the technique on steeper, rougher and more technical terrain.

  • Stile Cop riding
  • Steeper terrain
  • Technical corners
  • Advanced line choice
  • Braking refinement
  • Carrying speed
  • Race-focused coaching where required

Not sure which option to choose?

If you are still building confidence or have never had dedicated cornering coaching, Option 1 is usually the best starting point.

If you already ride confidently and want steeper, more demanding terrain, Option 2 is likely to suit you better.

Your bike can change how much grip you have

Cornering technique and bike setup work together.

Tyre pressure, suspension balance, bar width and brake lever position can all affect how easy it is to move the bike, find grip and feel confident through a turn.

We will look over your bike at the start of your coaching session and advise on any obvious adjustments.

Get your bike dialled before your course

Want to arrive with your bike already closer to where it needs to be?

Our SkillsLoop Bike Setup Tool gives you personalised starting points for tyre pressure, suspension, cockpit setup, bar width, brake lever position and more.

It also helps you understand how your setup interacts with terrain and grip, giving you a much stronger starting point before your coaching day.

Try the Bike Setup Tool

Is this course right for me?

This course could be ideal if you:

  • Slow down more than you would like before corners
  • Regularly feel your front wheel wash out
  • Feel unstable when leaning the bike
  • Stay too upright through turns
  • Want more confidence on berms
  • Struggle with flat or loose corners
  • Want to carry more speed without feeling out of control
  • Race and want to improve your corner speed

Half day or full day?

Half Day

A focused session where we can make significant changes to your core cornering technique.

10:00am – 1:00pm

Full Day

Gives you more time to absorb the new movements, repeat them and then apply everything across different trail situations.

10:00am – 3:00pm

Includes a short break.

Our recommendation

If possible, we recommend the full day.

Cornering often involves changing habits that have been built over years. The additional time gives your brain and body more opportunity to understand the new movement before we put it into real trail situations.
