Private Jumps & Drops Course
Private Jumps & Drops Course
Want to get your wheels off the ground with more control, better timing and less guesswork?
Our Private Jumps & Drops Course breaks everything down into clear, progressive steps so you understand not only what to do, but why it works.
Whether you are learning your first small jump or looking to progress onto bigger table tops, gaps and drops, the session is built around your current ability and confidence.
Build the technique before building the size
Jumping is not about pulling hard on the bars or simply carrying more speed.
Good technique comes from understanding how to load the bike, create movement, follow the take-off and stay balanced through the landing.
Better timing
Learn when to load and release the bike so lift comes from technique rather than brute force.
More control
Build a repeatable movement that makes jumps and drops feel more predictable.
More confidence
Progress from smaller features only when your technique shows you are ready.
Understand the why
Learn why jumps sometimes go wrong and what you can adjust rather than simply hoping the next attempt works better.
What will we work on?
Bike & Body Check
Before we start leaving the ground, we make sure both you and the bike are in a good position to progress.
- Body position
- Balance
- Bike and body separation
- Tyre pressure
- Suspension setup
- Brake lever and cockpit position
Weighting the Bike
Learning to load the bike correctly is one of the foundations of good jump technique.
- Compression
- Weight through the feet
- Using arms and legs effectively
- Maintaining balance
- Creating stored energy in the bike
Unweighting & Lift
Once you understand how to load the bike, we work on releasing that pressure and allowing the bike to rise naturally.
- Timing the release
- Following the shape of the take-off
- Staying centred
- Avoiding excessive pulling
- Creating controlled lift
Jump Technique
We break the jump into separate phases so you can understand what is happening from approach to landing.
- Approach position
- Speed control
- Loading the bike
- Take-off timing
- Flight position
- Landing control
Drop Technique
Drops require a different approach depending on the shape, speed and landing.
- Rolling drop technique
- Front wheel control
- Pop drop technique
- Approach speed
- Landing position
- Choosing the correct technique
Progression
Once your technique is consistent, we can start moving onto features that suit your ability level.
- Small jumps
- Table tops
- Larger drops
- Gap jumps where appropriate
- Step downs where appropriate
Jumps, broken down properly
Jumping often feels intimidating because everything happens quickly.
We slow the process down and help you understand each part separately before putting it all together.
Approach → Load → Extend → Follow → Land
Once you understand the sequence, jumping becomes far less mysterious and much easier to repeat.
Drops without the panic
Small drops are one of the best places to learn because the technique can be practised repeatedly without rushing progression.
Once you understand how to control the front wheel, maintain your body position and manage the landing, progression can become surprisingly quick.
Your safety comes first.
We will only move onto larger drops when your coach feels your technique and confidence are ready.
Progression is based on control, not pressure to tick off a bigger feature.

Get the bike working with you
Jumping magnifies bike setup problems.
Suspension that is too fast, too soft or poorly balanced can make the bike feel unpredictable through take-offs and landings.
We will check the obvious setup areas at the start of your session and advise where changes may help.
Get your bike dialled before your coaching day
Our SkillsLoop Bike Setup Tool gives you personalised starting points based on you, your bike and your riding.
It covers tyre pressure, suspension pressure, rebound, compression, cockpit setup, brake lever position, bar width and more.
A well-balanced bike gives you a much stronger platform for learning jumps, drops and larger features.
Try the Bike Setup ToolIs this course right for me?
This course could be ideal if you:
- Want to learn how to jump properly
- Feel nervous when your wheels leave the ground
- Regularly land nose-heavy or rear-heavy
- Struggle to clear table tops consistently
- Want to learn different drop techniques
- Want to progress onto bigger jumps
- Are considering your first gap jump
- Want individual feedback rather than learning through trial and error
Private coaching means your progression
Jump progression varies massively between riders.
One rider may need more work on timing, another on body position and another on confidence.
Private coaching allows us to concentrate on the exact thing currently holding you back instead of moving through a fixed group lesson.
Half day or full day?
Half Day
A focused session ideal for working on one or two specific jump or drop techniques.
10:00am – 1:00pm
Full Day
Gives us more time to work through the foundations, repeat the movements and progress onto more varied features.
10:00am – 3:00pm
Includes a short break.
Which should I choose?
A half day works brilliantly if you have one clear area you want to improve.
If you want to cover both jumps and drops in more detail, or want more time for progressive trail-based practice, the full day is usually the better option.
